“Most leadership problems are communication problems disguised as personality problems.”

NeuroConversant Leadership

How to Connect with People Who Think, Work, and See the World Differently

Most communication problems are not caused by bad intentions. They happen because people assume everyone receives, processes and shares information the way they do. That assumption quietly damages teams every day.

Meetings become frustrating. Feedback creates tension instead of clarity. Employees disengage. Smart people talk past each other. Leaders think they are being clear while their teams walk away with completely different interpretations of the same conversation.

In NeuroConversant® Leadership, Jeremy Doran introduces a practical framework for understanding why communication breaks down across different personalities, thinking styles, neurotypes, and lived experiences and how stronger more effective leaders learn to bridge those gaps.

Drawing from neuroscience, psychology, leadership experience, and deeply personal stories, Jeremy explores the invisible “codebooks” people use to navigate conversations, conflict, decision-making, and relationships. He shows how cognitive differences shape the way people listen, process feedback, solve problems, respond to stress, and communicate ideas.

Inside, you’ll discover:

✔ Why intelligent, capable people still consistently misunderstand each other

✔ How different thinking styles affect meetings, teamwork, conflict, and decision-making

✔ Why neurodivergent employees are often misunderstood, overlooked, or underutilized

✔ How assumptions silently sabotage communication and collaboration

✔ Practical tools for reducing defensiveness and improving understanding

✔ Strategies for leading cognitively diverse, high-performing teams

✔ How to communicate in ways people actually listen to, understand, and remember

✔ Why the best leaders learn to adapt their communication instead of expecting everyone else to think like they do

This is not another book about generic communication tips or personality labels.
It is a practical guide for leaders who want fewer misunderstandings, stronger collaboration, healthier teams, and better results in a world where cognitive diversity is becoming impossible to ignore.

Because the most effective leaders are not the ones who communicate the loudest. They are the ones who learn how different minds hear.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You leave meetings believing everyone is aligned, only to discover later that people walked away with completely different interpretations of the conversation. Deadlines slip. Tension grows. Small misunderstandings become bigger problems because people thought they were communicating clearly.

  • You manage talented people, but collaboration still feels harder than it should. One employee wants detailed instructions. Another feels micromanaged. One person processes ideas out loud while another needs time to think before responding. The more cognitively diverse your team becomes, the more communication starts to feel unpredictable.

  • You’ve tried leadership books, communication strategies, personality frameworks, and conflict-resolution techniques, yet the same patterns continue showing up. Conversations become defensive. Feedback gets misinterpreted. Certain employees seem disengaged or difficult. You know that you are missing something..

Jeremy Doran

Jeremy spent years understanding systems before he understood people. With a background in mechanical engineering and psychology, he came to leadership not through the traditional path, but through a lifetime of feeling like the odd one out—someone who craved explicit communication in a world of implications and led with logic when emotions filled the room.

That outsider perspective became his greatest asset. Jeremy is a professional speaker, leadership coach, and podcast host who developed the NeuroConversant Leadership framework to help neurodivergent and neurotypical people communicate and lead more effectively together. He is certified in the Stephen Covey 7 Habits and Leadership Management International's Total Leader development process.

Off the stage, Jeremy does standup comedy and improv, plays competitive volleyball, and has completed an Ironman triathlon. He lives in Rhode Island.
